Join us, and share, this critically important 2-part series examining Ohio’s election system and its impact on voter access – what are the access points, what are the barriers, and how do ALL Ohioans ensure their vote is counted.
 
The 2-part series will feature a targeted panel discussion over 2 evenings:
  • Understanding Ohio Elections: How to Vote - Access, Challenges, Rights Monday, Sept 14, 2020, 7:00-8:30pm
  • Equitable Voter Access: The Long Road to Access – Are We There Yet? Monday, Sept 21, 2020, 7:00-8:30pm
 
We are honored to announce Dr. Deborah Turner will launch the series, Monday, September 14. Dr. Turner will address the state of our nation’s elections, the impact of LWV Ohio shaping the election landscape, and the power of advocacy and activism to effectuate meaningful change. 
 
This series is hosted by League of Women Voters of Ohio, in partnership with Ohio Voter Rights Coalition, Common Cause, All Voting Is Local, A. Philip Randolph Institute, Ohio Votes, and Coalition on Homelessness and Housing in Ohio.
 
Real Talk Program Leagues include: LWV Hudson, LWV Greater Cleveland, LWV Akron Area, LWV Kent, LWV Canton Area, and LWV Oberlin Area

Understanding Ohio ElectionsAccess, Challenges, Rights
An expert panel will walk through Ohio’s election process, detail your 3 options for voting, dissect the specific challenges with in-person and mail-in voting, and offer strategies and resources to ensure your vote counts.  
 
KEYNOTE SPEAKER:  Dr. Deborah Turner, President,  LWVUS
Dr. Deborah Turner will address the state of our nation’s elections and the power of sweeping advocacy and activism to make a lasting impact. Dr. Turner will also explore Ohio’s unique station as a swing state, reinforcing our individual and collective impact on the national landscape, and LWV Ohio’s relentless work to protect voter rights and voter access.

Equitable Voter Access: The Long Road to Access – Are We There Yet? 
Join an incredible panel of Ohio’s leading advocacy organizations for an intersectional discussion exploring the long hard road for voter access within traditionally marginalized communities. What unique pathways have been cleared… what specific barriers remain… and how do we use the hard won victories of the past to propel us into the future. 
 
OPENING SPEAKER:  Dr. Elizabeth Smith-Pryor, Professor of History, Kent State University
Dr. Elizabeth Smith-Pryor will wind us through the difficult and painful journey for voter rights and voter access – beginning with exclusive access belonging to White male property-owners, the Suffrage Movement, the ongoing battle for Women of Color, Jim Crow, the Civil Rights Movement, the Voting Rights Act, systemic voter suppression, and today’s barriers to voting.
