The Ohio House just passed a budget that breaks the promise legislators made to adequately fund Ohio’s public schools. The Ohio House budget shorts Ohio public schools by more than $400 million dollars.
Our kids deserve better.
The Fair School Funding Plan, the bipartisan legislation Ohio lawmakers committed to in 2021, has three two-year phases. This budget should fund the plan’s final phase– instead, it reverses years of progress. Let's make sure Ohio doesn't fail Ohio kids by upholding the Ohio Constitutional requirement to provide adequate funds to support student learning and to distribute funding in an equitable way.
This same budget found room for $600 million in state bonds that benefit the billionaire owners of the Cleveland Browns, who donated almost $150k to Ohio lawmakers over the last 14 months.
The budget now goes to the Ohio Senate Finance Committee for debate. These state senators can restore the funding slashed by the Ohio House, but they need to hear from us.
Tell your Ohio state senator and members of the committee to fully fund the Fair School Funding plan so every Ohio student has the resources they need for a quality education, no matter where they live.A strong democracy depends on educated citizens, but that can’t happen without adequate school funding. Take action now to protect our public schools.
Thank you for taking the time to act! Right now, there are no General Assembly members associated with your address. This could mean you are not an Ohio resident, or that you have newly elected members in both the Ohio House and Ohio Senate, which has not yet updated their new member contacts. If it is the latter, please try again in a few days. Please reach out to Elisabeth Warner with any questions at ewarner@lwvohio.org.
Thank you!
