This week marks the 15th anniversary of the Citizens United decision, which changed the landscape of political funding by giving corporations and special interests unprecedented influence over our democracy. The result? Obscene amounts of money now flood our elections, spreading mis- and disinformation and drowning out the voices of voters, who struggle to be heard over the din of corporate dollars.

Dear Senator, As we mark this week's anniversary of the Citizens United v. FEC decision, I’m reaching out to encourage you to take a stand for transparency and fairness in our elections. The influence of dark money and unregulated spending continues to undermine public trust in our democracy. Before we start another election cycle, we must strengthen campaign finance laws, increase disclosure requirements, and support initiatives that ensure every voter’s voice matters as much as every dollar spent. I urge you to: - Require political nonprofits and corporations to disclose their donors - Ensure that donors cannot hide behind shadowy nonprofits or LLCs that do not have to disclose the source of their funding - Require that advertising disclose the true donors - Require that registered lobbyists disclose fundraising support they gave to candidates - Improve the searchability of campaign finance reports for all political money spent on local, state, and federal elections in Ohio Voters deserve to know where candidates get their funds and how those funds are used. This means fighting for methods of financing political campaigns that ensure the public’s right to know, combat corruption and undue influence, enable candidates to compete more equitably for public office, and allow maximum citizen participation in the political process. By prioritizing these values, you have the power to restore confidence in our democratic process and demonstrate Ohio’s leadership in good governance.
