UPDATE: There is a strong concern that some legislators are attempting to subvert the legislative process and get the provisions of these bills passed without an allowance for opposition testimony! Write to your House leadership demanding that our voices not be silenced.

Ohio’s education system is under assault. Take action now to oppose House Bill 322 and Sub House Bill 327. Both bills severely restrict and censor what and how K-12 school districts, higher education institutions, and political subdivisions can teach their students and how they can train their staff; AND removes up to 100% of state funding and professional licensing for violations!

Both Bills:

Actively censor and restrict evidence and truth-based education, by prohibiting the “promotion” of “divisive concepts”, to include acknowledgement, condemnation, and accountability for: systemic and structural racism, longstanding discrimination (including sexism), oppression, suppression, and conscious and unconscious bias
Openly infringe on academic freedoms and freedom of speech; and prevent the truthful examination of oppression and suppression that continue to plague our state and communities
Openly threaten and intimidate educators into hiding and filtering the realities and truths of our nation’s history and current values, and how we in turn influence global economies, political theory, and human rights

I am writing to you, a leader in the Ohio House of Representatives, to ensure that honesty and accountability are infused throughout our education system and government agencies. This is the only path towards Ohio’s growth, economic development, and long-term sustainability. I strongly condemn HB 322 and Sub HB 327, and any like-minded language that serves to censor education by policing how educators discuss “divisive topics” like nationality, race, color, ethnicity, religion, or sex. I also strongly oppose any legislation that removes local control from school districts, educators, school boards, and parents. Further, I condemn any subversive legislative action that denies Ohioans the opportunity to voice concern and opposition to these bills (and associated amendments) by denying public opponent testimony. Any attempt to bury this legislation and language as amendments without public opposition testimony is an egregious assault on the open legislative process. I strongly urge you to oppose both bills and ANY like-minded language -- and also guarantee that this legislation (and any like-minded bills) is allowed to receive opponent testimony!
